Dive Rite Light Batteries & Chargers

BATTERY TYPES

Dive Rite light systems use sealed Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries. NiMH batteries are largely maintenance free. After light use, you need only recharge the battery. The battery should also be recharged every 30 to 60 days if it has remained unused. A special NiMH charger must be used with the NiMH battery packs. Dive Rite NiMH batteries contain no lithium and do not have any TSA travel restrictions. Traveling divers also prefer the NiMH charger because it automatically adjusts to 110/220V current and 50/60Hz frequency.

The ORDER in performing the CHARGING steps is CRITICAL

Follow the manual directions precisely for charging the battery. For NiMH batteries, the battery must be connected to the charger and only then is the charger plugged into the wall. If you power up the charger and then connect the battery, the charger may not charge the battery yet can give an indication the battery is fully charged when it is actually not charged at all.

The Value of Additional Batteries & Chargers
An alternative to using your battery for more than one dive before charging is to purchase additional batteries. Doing so enables you to have a fully charged battery for every dive and decreases the risk of battery damage over multiple dives. In fact, the cost of owning two or more batteries can easily be less than the cost of repeatedly replacing a single battery that wears out prematurely due to over use. Owning additional chargers can save time as well by allowing you to charge multiple batteries simultaneously.
