Dive Rite Canister Light Component PartsOn This Page: Light Component Parts | Pricing |
These are not the user replacement parts such as o-rings, bulbs, and batteries. Visit the Accessories and Parts page for the common user replacement parts. On this page we are referring to the non user-serviceable individual component parts such as ballasts, cords, switches, etc.

We frequently hear from individuals seeking canister light component parts. The reasons people want non user-serviceable component parts vary:
- Building a 'Do-It-Yourself' light
- DIY repairs to a Dive Rite light
- Repairs to another brand of light
- Upgrades/Modifications to a light
- Just want to have spare light parts
- Unique reasons (usually unrelated to lights)
Dive Rite generally has resisted selling canister light component parts unless they have been sold as part of a factory repair of a complete light system. At Dive Rite Express , we have learned the hard way Dive Rite resists selling light component parts for a very good reason. Although HID lights may appear to be very simple devices, there is actually a LOT of knowledge and skill along with special tools required to build a canister light. Please pardon us, but we are going to be very frank...
- While you can build a DIY light, you may make a enough mistakes that you won't save any money. We have talked to many people over the years who tell us their DIY light was one of their least cost effective DIY projects.
- It's unlikely you will be able to successfully self-repair your canister light. The most common simple repairs attempted are trying to replace a damaged/worn cord or switch. This leads to the next most common repairs, the complete overhaul of a flooded light or burned out ballast. It will be cheaper and quicker to let the Dive Rite factory do the repair.
- You have a brand of light that is no longer supported by the manufacturer (because you didn't choose Dive Rite) and it now needs repairs. The Dive Rite parts are probably not not going to be easily interchangeable. There are sometimes differences that may not be apparent until the first dive and your light floods or burns out.

Light Upgrades and Component Parts Many people have older halogen lights that they would like to upgrade to HID. Fully warrantied halogen-to-HID light upgrades can be done at the Dive Rite factory, but upgrades are never cost-effective. Changing the light head triggers a cascade of other required changes such as the cord, glands, switch, and almost always the battery, meaning the only component reused was the canister. When the parts, labor, and shipping are considered, the cost is more than a new complete HID light system. Better to purchase a new HID light system and retain your halogen light as a backup or sell it as a working system. The Problem with Selling Component Parts: When we sold parts as special order items, they were sometimes returned. When we get them back they are usually damaged or otherwise unusable, this is especially true of ballasts because this very expensive component is very easy to damage. We've also noticed that people purchasing component parts often need technical support. Support on component parts is not something Dive Rite Express is qualified to provide because we don't build lights, the Dive Rite factory does.
The Solution - Part I: Send your canister light to Dive Rite for repair. Our experience has been Dive Rite does a GREAT job of customer service on light repairs and their prices for out-of-warranty repairs are excellent. The turn around is usually just a few days but can be longer if there are special circumstances such as a difficult to diagnose problem. Just Contact the Dive Rite factory to get a service quote and RMA number, and send the light to them. If you need it back by a certain date for that "big dive", be sure to let them know.
The Solution - Part II: You just want to buy canister light component parts because you don't want to send the light for factory repair. We'll sell them to you; but these items are sold with special terms of: NO warranty, NO return, NO support and no exceptions. Your complete satisfaction is our goal, so please consider carefully before ordering canister light component parts.
| The HID ballast is easily damaged if not properly handled, so ballasts are ONLY available as part of a light head assembly. The ballast has been assembled at the Dive Rite factory with the bulb, socket and electrical cord so that it may be tested and known to be working correctly at time of sale. Ballasts are not available as a separately sold item, except as part of a factory repair. To be clear, if you wish to purchase the ballast itself, you MUST purchase the complete light head assembly. |
