The typical high-pressure hose is a 7/16-inch male at the end that screws into the first stage HP port and a 7/16-inch female at the end that screws on to the SPG.

The typical low-pressure regulator hose is a 3/8-inch male at the end that screws into the first stage LP port, and at the other end you'll find a 9/16-inch female that screws onto the second stage regulator body. However, Poseidon brand and the Dive Rite Jetstream use a unique second stage regulator body fitting with a built-in OPV

The typical low-pressure BC inflator hose is a 3/8-inch male at the end that screws into the first stage LP port, and at the other end is the Quick Disconnect BC female slide-lock Schrader valve fitting that accepts the standard BC inflator male QD post.

Choosing the Best Regulator Hose Length The most common hose length found on the primary SCUBA regulator is about 28 to 30 inches. For many divers, this hose is too long and will cause the hose to "bow out", create unnecessary drag and tug on the mouth making for an uncomfortable dive, particularly in current.

Some divers prefer the slightly shorter hose length of 22 inches as being more comfortable with less drag and pull, but most solve this problem with a very long primary hose. Also the 22-inch hose is the preferred length with the backup regulator for those divers who use their primary regulator with a long hose.

The 40 inch hose is the common choice for the alternate second stage used on most sport diving "octopus" regulator configurations. The 40 inch hose is also the recommended length for stage and deco regulators as well. The 36 inch hose is a more managable length for divers who carry small pony or "bailout" bottles for their personal use.

Many advanced divers and instructors believe the common hose lengths are too short in out-of-air situations and now use a much longer hose, often 60 inches (5 feet) for those who dive open water exclusively. Technical divers have adopted a minimum length of 84 inches (7 feet) for overhead environments, and in some exceptional circumstances even use 108 inch (9 feet) long hoses.

Miflex XTREME Diving Hoses

The Miflex XTREME high performance range of diving hoses has been developed in cooperation with expert divers for a superior in depth performance. A team of Miflex engineers analysed the weak points of traditional low- pressure diving hoses. The fruit of their research is the XTREME high performance range. XTREME hoses feature an external nylon safety braiding designed to resist the snags and abrasions that divers can often encounter. Unlike traditional hoses, the XTREME nylon safety braiding is not simply pushed over the hose fittings. Instead the braiding is tightly bound and fixed to the hose core by stainless steel or brass sleeves. The result is performance and durability in extreme situations.

The Miflex XTREME hoses are receiving a great deal of interest from experienced sport and technical divers. The flexibility of the regulator hoses makes the second stage more comfortable in the mouth and smoother hose routing particularly with long hoses. They are also great for stage/deco bottles! The flexibility of the BC hoses allows the BC inflator to be better behaved as well.

Hose Adapters and Special Fittings

Today's multitude of hose-connection diameters often makes it difficult to connect the hose you want to the regulator port you have available. The solution may be to use one of our hose adapters.

Most first stage high-pressure ports (including Dive Rite) are 7/16-inch female. A few brands of first stages use high-pressure ports that are 3/8-inch female. We offer 3/8-inch to 7/16-inch hose adapters.

Most first stage low-pressure ports (including Dive Rite) are 3/8-inch female. A few brands have a special low-pressure port that is 1/2-inch female. We offer 1/2-inch to 3/8-inch hose adapters.

Coupler: Joins Low-Pressure Hoses w/ 3/8-Inch Fittings

LP Reg Hose Coupler -- The 9/16-inch male end screws into the second stage end of a LP regulator hose, and the other end of the coupler has a 3/8-inch female fitting. This coupler allows two LP regulator hoses to be joined together into one longer regulator hose.

Adapter: Turns Low-Pressure Hose into BC Inflator Hose

LP Reg Hose to BC Inflator Hose -- The 9/16-inch male end screws into the second stage end of an ordinary LP regulator hose, and the other end of the adapter is a Quick Disconnect BC female slide-lock Schrader valve fitting that accepts the standard BC inflator male QD post. This adapter allows a standard LP regulator hose to be converted into a BC inflator hose.

Low Pressure Hose to Rite Source inflator

LP Reg Hose to BC Integrated Second Stage -- The 9/16-inch male end screws into the second stage end of an ordinary LP regulator hose, and the other end of the adapter is a female slide-lock fitting that accepts the hi-flow male post found on the BC integrated second stages of the Dive Rite Source, ScubaPro Air II, Tusa Duo-Air IR3, and Atomic SS1. This adapter allows any length LP regulator hose to be converted into a quick disconnect hose for BC integrated alternate air sources.

1/4-Inch NPT Male (Air Tools) to male BC inflator QR post

1/4-Inch NPT to BC inflator -- One end of this adapter has a 1/4-inch NPT male fitting, used by most compressed air powered tools, and the other end has a standard BC inflator male QD post. With this adapter, you can power all sorts of air tools off a SCUBA Tank using first stage regulator and BC inflator hose.

Second Stage Right-Angle Swivel - It attaches between the regulator second stage and its low pressure hose. It swivels at the regulator and at the hose, but is not an omni-directional swivel and so it maintains its angle and will not allow the regulator to flop around. Placed on a 40-inch primary regulator hose in a single-tank regulator configuration, the Right Angle Adapter allows the hose to route down under the arm and up to the mouth, getting rid of the large hose "arc" that protrudes from the tank around the diver, offering a more streamlined configuration.

Second Stage Omni-Swivel - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, this very high quality omni-directional swivel screws inline between the low-pressure hose and the second stage. Offering complete 360° rotation, it allows the low-pressure hose to exit the second stage at any angle you choose. The swivel movement allows the regulator mouthpiece to move without restriction. Moving your head in any direction will not cause the second stage to pull on your jaw. This adapter makes the regulator feel much more comfortable in your mouth on waist-mounted deco and stage cylinders where the hose runs down your chest rather than over your shoulder.

First Stage Pivot-Swivels - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, this very high quality swivel screws inline between the hose and the first stage regulator body. It allows more movement of the hose at the first stage,and can be used to streamline the area of the first stage by providing tighter hose routing. The low-pressure version has 3/8-inch M-F fittings and the high-pressure version is 7/16-inch M-F fittings.

High Flow Quick Disconnect System - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, the quick disconnect system offers high-flow performance (unlike a typical BC quick disconnect). The quick disconnect slider has 9/16-inch male threads that attach to a standard low-pressure regulator hose, accepts the nipple with a positive locking mechanism which prevents accidental disconnection, and automatically seals when disconnected. We offer two different versions of the nipple fitting. One version of the QD nipple fitting attaches to the standard 9/16-inch threads found on most second stages. The other version of the QD nipple fitting screws into the standard low-pressure regulator hose 9/16-inch fitting.

2nd Stage Quick Connection Adapter - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, The regulator quick connection adapter fitting attaches to the standard 9/16-inch threads found on most second stages and the other end has a standard BC inflator male QD post. This tool allows a diver to plug a second stage into rebreather manual addition hose to allow access to the onboard gas supply. Typically the adapter would be used to gain access to the onboard oxygen but could be used for shallow access to diluent as well. The 2nd Stage Quick Connection Adapter will not supply adequate gas if the diver is deeper than 20 feet.

In-Line Shutoff Slide Valve - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, this very high quality shutoff valve fits in-line between your low-pressure hose and second stage regulator. The shutoff valve opens and closes very quickly by sliding (ON is toward the Second Stage) , and provides positive tactile feedback when operated. Used to prevent gas loss from dribbling or free flowing second stage or rebreather ADV, or whenever the ability to very rapidly stop gas flow is required. The regulator first stage should also have an OPV if the shutoff is used to disable the only pressure relief path.

In-Line Shutoff Slide Valve - This Asian manufactured alternative to OmniSwivel version of the in-line shutoff slide valve is significantly smaller and a bit lower cost. It also has a different feel to the slide valve operation that requires less force to open and close with less of a positive "detent" (also, ON is toward the hose, not the second stage). As with any cutoff, the regulator first stage should also have an OPV if the shutoff is used to disable the only pressure relief path.

Y-blocks - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, these Y-blocks provide the ability to split a single low pressure supply line to service two or three devices such as BC, drysuit, and second stage regulator. Comes standard configured with two or three 3/8-inch female ports and a 9/16-inch female port. Install a 9/16-inch male to 3/8-inch female adapter for use with a 3/8-inch M-M low pressure hose. Install a 9/16-inch male-male union for use with a standard low pressure hose with the typical 9/16-inch female fitting.

2nd Stage Cap - Supplied by OmniSwivel International, the 2nd Stage Cap seals the standard 9/16-inch fitting found on most regulator second stages. When the supply hose is disconnected, it protects the inlet threads when traveling and prevents contaminants from entering. Also recommended for the O2ptima rebreather to cover the external threads of the oxygen solenoid inlet port when not in use.

Regulator Port Plugs -- Supplied by OmniSwivel International, for standard 7/16-inch high-pressure ports and standard 3/8-inch low-pressure ports, use a hex key to install or remove. Includes the Viton oxygen-compatible O-ring. The rare 1/2-inch low-pressure port plug is also available.

Tire Inflator -- Tire chuck on one end and a standard BC inflator male quick-release post on the other end. With this you can inflate tires, or anything else with a Schrader valve stem, from a SCUBA tank using a first stage regulator and BC inflator hose. No-leak washers provide a secure fit to the stem and the end is offset to help manage the hose during inflation.

Air Nozzle -- Rubber air nozzle on one end and a standard BC inflator male quick-release post on the other end. Normally closed, you depress the side of the rubber air nozzle to release and regulate air flow. With this you can inflate buoys, beach toys, balloons, etc. from a SCUBA tank using a first stage regulator and BC inflator hose. Also works well as an air gun to use compressed air to blow dry equipment.
