SeaCure Moldable Regulator MouthpieceThe SeaCure Hi-Flow Moldable Mouthpiece is a unique, moldable device designed to fit your mouth, teeth, and jaw configuration precisely to provide maximum retention and control of your regulator. SeaCure offers custom comfort and eliminates the jaw fatigue sometimes experienced with conventional mouthpieces. It is the only moldable and re-moldable mouthpiece offset for both the upper and lower jaw positions. The improved "Hi-Flow" model offers a more streamlined design with an expanded port for increased air flow and also includes a new one piece molding and sealing attachment. This device allows for easier molding and is then used to protect the regulator from debris and unwelcome guests during storage. The SeaCure Hi-Flow model is available in three sizes and still offers proven security and comfort. SeaCure was created by an orthodontist, to fit your mouth, teeth and gums perfectly. |
|
The SeaCure Benefit The SeaCure mouthpiece, being moldable, can actually enter the mouth all the way to the rear of the jaw employing all of the diver's teeth. The result is that the large rear teeth and tremendous mechanical advantage of the back of the jaw can now be employed to retain the mouthpiece/regulator unit during diving, greatly reducing the required muscle effort. In addition, because SeaCure has to fit only one mouth, it can be constructed with a much better material allowing transfer of the regulator/hose load to the rear of the jaw and greatly reducing gum abrasion. The significant reduction in muscle effort required to retain the mouthpiece/regulator unit while diving has been confirmed with electromyographic tests. Test data demonstrate a reduction of muscle effort in the range of 33% to 59% depending upon the individual diver. |

Sizing For Your Regulator The SeaCure I, II and III models have identical fully custom bite wings which are moldable to fit every individual diver's mouth, teeth and jaw. The only difference is the orifice which mounts on the regulator mouthpiece fitting. You will need to select the appropriate size for your regulator. Almost all regulator mouthpiece fittings fall into two general sizes with some fittings being only slightly larger or smaller. The regular fitting retention lip (about 1&1/4-inch x 3/4-inch) takes a SeaCure I, and the large fitting retention lip (about 1&7/16-inch x 7/8-inch) takes a SeaCure II. It's best to simply measure to be sure, but we also have a list of some popular brands and models below: |
|
|
SeaCure I fits AQUALUNG older metal regulators; ATOMIC-older; CRESSI-SUB (except Ellipse); SCUBAPRO; SHERWOOD (pre 1992); TABATA/TUSA (except Imprix) SeaCure II fits AERIS; AQUALUNG newer, including Titan and Legend; ATOMIC-newer; DACOR Viper and Eagle; DIVE RITE (except Jetstream); MARES-newer models (except MARES MR-12); OCEANIC (except Zeta); SCUBA MAX; SHERWOOD after 1992; XS SCUBA; ZEAGLE SeaCure III only fits the unconventional design of AQUALUNG older plastic regulators including Micra; AQUATEC; GENESIS SeaCure PRO is the same size as the II and fits the same regulators as a II. The PRO, available in clear color only, also has the same Hi-Flow features as the I, II and III. The heavy-duty PRO differs in that it has a greater material thickness and the bite wings are a bit thicker as well. This has the advantage of making the PRO a bit more durable. However, the PRO is still very comfortable with many technical and rebreather divers preferring the PRO because the thicker bite wings hold the jaws in a slightly more open position, offering a slightly better inhalation path. The SeaCure mouthpiece is not recommended for APEKS and POSEIDON brands. They have unique orifice designs that do not provide an adequate seal with the SeaCure. Many rebreather DSV's (particularly the Ambient Pressure, Meg, and KISS DSV's) have unconventional and/or oversized mouthpiece fittings that can cause the SeaCure to leak or are so tight the mouthpiece later splits. In the past, rebreather manufacturers have also raised objections because the original SeaCure "Sport" model would increase the work-of-breathing. However, some rebreather divers are successfully using the new Hi-Flow models, notably the Pro and II are a good fit on the O2ptima DSV and Golem BOV. |

Molding For YOUR Mouth
Complete molding instructions which have proven totally satisfactory for individuals to mold the device themselves are included. The general concept is scissors are used to trim unnecessary material from the device to fit the size of the specific mouth/jaw. Then hot water is used to soften the mouthpiece bite wings only, to allow molding to precisely fit the individual's teeth, gums, and jaw (view an example at left). The device is re-moldable so that if not at first satisfied, or dental work changes the bite, it can be remolded and adjusted to accommodate the changes for comfort. |

Most technical divers use a primary regulator with a long hose so that it may easily be donated to another diver in an emergency. Use of a custom regulator mouthpiece in that situation may have an issue. That's because the other diver might have difficulty using the regulator with someone else's custom mouthpiece. If you choose to use a custom mouthpiece on a long hose configuration, make sure to check with your teammates to be sure they can accept the mouthpiece. There are no issues on traditional recreational 'octopus' regulator configurations where the primary is never donated. There also would be no issues with using a custom mouthpiece on deco regulators, which may actually be in the mouth for much more time than the primary. Further, there are no issues with rebreather loops using a custom mouthpiece (if it fits the DSV) because they are never donated. The custom mouthpieces offer the absolute best comfort, but may not always be appropriate. For a very comfortable one-size-fits-all type mouthpiece, take a look at the Comfo-bite™ Mouthpiece |

Mouthpiece ShieldAccidental deployment of a decompression regulator below its safe Maximum Operating Depth (MOD) can have catastrophic results. To help guard against this, Dive Rite offers the Mouthpiece Shield. This simple device consists an elastic strap and plastic D-ring that are held in place with the same tie wrap used to fasten the mouthpiece to the second-stage body. Also included is a bright green standard regulator mouthpiece and tie wrap. Fits all Dive Rite regulators and most other brands. |

When not in use, the elastic strap blocks the regulator mouthpiece. Thus, were you to place this regulator in your mouth by accident, you would instantly know that something was wrong. To deploy the mouthpiece at safe stop depths, simply use the D-ring to pull the elastic strap back and out of the way, as shown. |
