Dive Rite stainless steel "SideWinder" guideline dive reels come in variety of sizes. They feature an anti-fouling design that uses precision machined tolerances to ensure that line cannot slip between the spool and the handle. The side-mounted closed-end handle allows ambidextrous single-handed operation so that the reel may be held in the same hand with a Goodman light handle. Thumb screw is positioned to ride on the smooth outer rim of the spool allowing precise drag or complete lock down of the reel. The stainless steel axle is permanently attached to the aluminum frame, and the spool locks in place with a simple "E" clip. This results in a lower profile, eliminates the possibility of spool lockup, helps ensure that the axle never goes out of alignment, and simplifies maintenance. By simply removing and replacing the "E" clip, it takes just a moment to swap spools of line.

Reel Capacities: All SideWinder reels are available with the #24 line preferred by cave divers and the larger reels are optionally available with a heavier #36 line preferred by wreck and open-water divers. We also offer our Dive Rite Express exclusive Hi-Viz Line. The chart below shows the capacity of each reel, depending on the type and weight of line selected.

Jump/Gap Side-Handled Reel
Cave divers use the compact Jump/Gap Reel to make a temporary connection between the ends of permanent guidelines, or to "jump" to offshoot lines. It comes with a medium stainless steel bolt snap and 50 feet of #24 line. Some divers prefer this reel over a spool because the skill set for usage is consistent with other reels.

Safety Side-Handled Reel
The Safety Reel is used by cave and wreck divers as a back-up reel, or by cavern divers as their primary navigation tool. Includes a medium stainless steel bolt snap and 140 feet of #24 line. Hi-Viz line spool available separately.

Primary Side-Handled Reel
Divers typically use the Primary Reel as their main navigation reel; it has many other potential uses as well. Includes a large-long double-eye stainless steel bolt snap and either 400 feet of #24 line or 250 feet of #36 line. Hi-Viz line spool available separately.

Explorer Side-Handled Reel
When you really want to 'lay line', you'll need the Explorer Reel. Includes a large-long double-eye stainless steel bolt snap and either 900 feet of #24 line or 550 feet of #36 line. Bulk rolls of Hi-Viz line available separately.

Hi-Viz Line
Our Dive Rite Express exclusive Hi-Viz Line is strong, UV resistant, high tenacity braided Dacron (so strong it's used for belting auto tires), but it's about the same thickness as nylon cave line, so you can load plenty on the reel. Our Hi-Viz Line stands out like neon, allowing easier line management. This abrasion resistant line has slightly negative buoyancy, won't twist or kink and has minimal stretch. Hi-Viz Line is available pre loaded on a Dive Rite reel spool, so it's quick and easy to reconfigure your reel by simply exchanging spools. Color choice of Hi-Viz Orange or Hi-Viz Yellow.

Hi-Viz Line in Action
Watch this twenty second movie of two divers on their stop during a training dive. There is some current and the divers are working to be careful to avoid entangling their lines. One diver is using ordinary white nylon line and the other is using our Hi-Viz orange Dacron line. See if you can find where the diver is also carrying a backup finger spool with Hi-Viz line.
