The VR3 upgrade options provide excellent support for both semi-closed and fully-closed circuit rebreathers. The base VR3 closed-circuit option provides for two different constant PO2 set points and allows you to switch between them during your dive, as well as switching to open-circuit mode for bailout. When in closed-circuit mode, the VR3 will use the selected internal PO2 set point for decompression and tissue updating calculations. In a similar manner to the gas select screen for open-circuit, you can also define a list of preset bailout and diluent gases including Helium blends if you have the base VR3 Trimix option. |

With the purchase of an O2 Sensor linking cable and External O2 Monitoring Feature Activation PIN upgrade, the VR3 can continuously monitor an external O2 sensor and display an actual real-time FO2/PO2 of the inspired gas. The VR3 will display warnings if the PO2 is low or the external sensor has failed. You may also choose to have the VR3 use the actual real-time reading from the external O2 sensor for decompression and tissue updating calculations (known as the "XDec" mode in the VR3). |
VR3 O2 Monitor Kit for Inspiration
Designed exclusively for the Ambient Pressure Diving Inspiration closed-circuit rebreather, this version uses a Y-shaped sensor holder installed at the top of the absorbent canister between the lid and the inhalation hose via the screw fittings. The kit includes the canister mounted sensor holder,a separate 48-inch long linking cable and External O2 Monitoring Feature Activation PIN. Also requires an oxygen sensor, sold separately.
VR3 O2 Monitor Kit for Dräger
Originally designed for the Dräger series of semi-closed rebreathers, this version will also work with most rebreathers that can be modified to install a Dräger 'P' connector mounted thru the counterlung. The kit includes a counterlung mounted cell holder with integral 48-inch long linking cable and External O2 Monitoring Feature Activation PIN. Also requires an oxygen sensor and "P" counterlung connector, both sold separately.
VR3 O2 Monitor Kit for O2ptima
The Dive Rite O2ptima design has provisions for an independent Oxygen monitoring solution, including space for a fourth oxygen sensor in the cell array. The kit includes a 48-inch long sensor linking cable with sealing gland, sensor connector and External O2 Monitoring Feature Activation PIN. Also requires an oxygen sensor, sold separately. After 1-Jan-06, all O2ptima rebreathers shipped by Dive Rite Express already have the sealing gland port drilled, tapped and plugged. Installation consists of unscrewing the plug and screwing in the sealing gland and cable assembly. If your O2ptima rebreather does not have a sealing gland port for the fourth sensor linking cable, contact Dive Rite Express for further information.
Custom VR3 O2 Monitor Kit
For those individuals who wish to design a custom sensor mount for their rebreather, a 60-inch long unterminated cable with a VR3 I/O port connector is available. See our documentation of VR3 cable pin outs for details on connecting an oxygen sensor. The kit includes only a C10c unterminated sensor linking cable and External O2 Monitoring Feature Activation PIN. The Custom O2 Monitor Kit is NOT a complete solution because Dive Rite Express does not supply any type of generic cable sealing gland, sensor mount or sensor connector. These must be provided by the designer of a complete custom O2 monitoring solution.

O2 Sensor Monitoring Feature vs. Closed-Circuit FeatureThe base VR3 closed-circuit feature provides for selecting a constant PO2 set point and using that internal set point for decompression and tissue updating calculations (CLOSED CCT mode). The external O2 sensor monitoring feature provides for using the external real-time FO2 reading of the inspired gas for decompression and tissue updating calculations (XDec mode).If the VR3 is set for closed-circuit mode (CLOSED CCT = on) and external decompression mode (XDec = on), the VR3 will calculate decompression by sampling the external sensor using an equation suitable for fully-closed rebreathers. If the VR3 is set for open-circuit mode (i.e. CLOSED CCT = off) and external decompression is on (XDec = on), the VR3 will calculate decompression by sampling the external sensor using an equation suitable for semi-closed rebreathers. If you wish to use your VR3 and the external O2 sensor monitoring feature with only semi-closed rebreathers, there is no need for the base VR3 closed-circuit feature. |
